black tie event
And for those extra special events . . .

If your invitation says "Black Tie" or "Black Tie Invited" . . .
This means it’s a festive event after six in the evening, to which the women will be wearing formal clothes. Your attire: a smart, well-fit and comfortable tuxedo.

Dressing correctly for these types of events begins with the traditional black tuxedo.  It is worn with a white shirt and vest (or cummerbund in black or dark shades), and a black tie or a tie matching the vest or cummerbund. You’ll want patent shoes to insure the right look.

If your invitation says "White Tie" or "Full Dress" . . .

This means it's a very special occasion, such as:

  • A debutante dance
  • A diplomatic ball
  • A Mardi Gras ball
  • An important fund-raising dinner

You'll want to be dashing - and proper too. Your attire: traditional full dress. Traditional full dress consists of a freshly laundered, white wing collar pique shirt, a crisp white pique vest, white pique tie, classic black trousers with formal satin stripe, a traditional black tailcoat just covering the vest, and black patent shoes.

Our Formalwear Specialists can show you the latest formal attire appropriate for “White Tie” or “Black Tie” events.  Schedule your consultation today at the Louie’s Tux Shop location nearest you.
